Edinburgh CastleEdinburgh Castle towers above Edinburgh, sitting on top of a dormant volcano at the top of the Royal Mile. It is a focal point for visitors to Edinburgh and can be seen from most locations in the city. On its western side, steep cliffs form part of its natural defence while on the other, the famous Royal Mile slopes down from it towards Holyrood Palace in the East. The Castle Apartments are the closest to the castle and provide a perfect base not only for exploring the castle, but also the many places of interest and wonderful restaurants to be found along the Royal Mile.
