Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Edinburgh Fringe Festival

From plays in swimming pools to Shakespeare in a tree or on a bouncy Castle, anything goes at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

During the festival the upper High Street section of the Royal Mile becomes pedestrianised and is taken over by performers advertising their shows in the most outlandish and enterprising ways.

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival had over 1,800 shows last year and has been running since 1947. Originally a side event to the main Edinburgh Festival, in recent years it has become the main event. Famous for the weird, wacky and original, it attracts professional and amateur performers from across the world who hope to make a name for themselves.

Whether you like comedy, drama, ground breaking new theatre, music, or musicals there is award winning entertainment at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to suit everyone. There are performances across the city so any of our self catering apartments in Edinburgh would be ideal Edinburgh festival accommodation, but if you really want to be a part of the buzz and excitement that is Edinburgh in August then the Castle apartments on the Royal Mile are where the main action takes place.

Dates for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival can be found on their website, along with the programme listings from June.

Best of all the Fringe Festival coincides with many other Festivals in August including the Film Festival, Book Festival and world famous Edinburgh Tattoo, so there are plenty of world class events to suit everyone.

The Fringe Society has a shop at 180 the Highstreet on the Royal Mile open all year round selling merchandise, but the main festival occurs throughout the month of August.
